Happy New Years! It is now 2008. It is barely a day old. I am sure many have marked in the new year, whether at home, party, or at Times Square. The new year is in. Since 2008 is an election year, it will be an interesting year. Here are other years that compare going back to 1998.
-Monica Lewinsky Scandal and strong El Nino.
-Kosovo War, Columbine, and Turkish Earthquake. Also, the Y2K Bug scare.
-Nothing outstanding, saving Elian Gonzalez and 2000 Election which ended up in the courts.
-Official start of new millenium. Can be divided by two, before and after 9/11.
-First full year since 9/11.
-Start of Iraq War.
-Election year, four hurricanes affecting Florida, and Indian Ocean Tsunami.
-Active hurricane season and Hurricane Katrina.
-Nothing outstanding other than midterm election
-Virginia Tech Massacre, TC Sidr, and Bhutto’s assassination.
-Only time will tell. :-)

I always notice before a major and tragic news event that the media always focuses on one or two things, some should not be such a focus. Prior to 9/11, it was Chandra Levy and string of shark attacks. In fact, I saw a video on the morning news on September 11, 2001 at 8:00 AM. It was a slow news day, other than primary elections and Michael Jordan making an announcement of returning to NBA. Prior to Hurricane Katrina was Natalee Holloway. Prior to Virginia Tech Massacre, it was Anna Nicole Smith’s death and Don Imus getting fired.
