Blundering Afghan suicide bomber blows up 6 militants

KABUL, March 26 (Reuters) – A would-be suicide bomber accidentally blew himself up on Thursday, killing six other militants as he was bidding them farewell to leave for his intended target, the Interior Ministry said.

“The terrorist was on his way to his destination and saying good-bye to his associates and then his suicide vest exploded,” a statement from the ministry said.

Taliban-led attacks in Afghanistan have escalated in the past year with suicide and roadside bombings insurgents’ weapons of choice.

A school shooting bloodbath near Stuttgart in Germany has left at least 15 people dead – with the gunman killing himself after an exchange of fire with the police.

He shot himself in the head in the parking lot of a car dealership in Wendlinger, where he had reportedly killed two more people, bring the number of people dead up to at least 15.

First reports indicate that the victims include a nine pupils, two teachers, a gardener and two passersby.

SAMSON, Ala. — Federal court records show the gunman who killed 10 people then himself in a rampage in south Alabama had filed a lawsuit along with his mother against the poultry plant that suspended her from her job.

The records show Michael McLendon and his mother, Lisa McLendon, are among employees who are suing over compensation claims from 2006. McLendon is believed to have killed his mother and nine others in a burst of gunfire across two counties.

Authorities say the company, Pilgrim Pride, was on a list of those he felt had harmed him that was found in his mother’s burned home. A company spokesman did not immediately reply to an e-mail seeking comment.

The depraved, hate besotted fools from the Westboro Baptist Church — the kooks who show up at the funerals of fallen soldiers with their “God Hates Fags!” signs — are planning to picket Saturday afternoon’s funeral of radio legend Paul Harvey, who died last week at 90.

On irony in this is that, to the extent that one can read divine judgment in worldly outcomes, Paul Harvey was apparently God’s pet: He lived a long, very successful and reportedly very happy life.

Another is that Harvey was, in nearly all ways, the voice of midwestern conservatism and an exemplar of heterosexual monogamy.

March 1 (Bloomberg) — American International Group Inc., the insurer deemed too important to fail, may get a commitment for as much as $30 billion in new government capital after a record quarterly loss, said two people familiar with the matter.

The insurer may also be allowed to make lower payments on government loans, said the people, who declined to be identified because there was no public announcement. New York-based AIG may forfeit part of stakes in its two largest non-U.S. life insurance divisions to lower the firm’s debt, the people said.

AIG, first saved from collapse in September with a package that grew to $150 billion, had to restructure its bailout after failing to sell enough units to repay the U.S. Firms including banks relied on AIG to back more than $300 billion of assets through derivative contracts as of Sept. 30, making the insurer a “systematically significant failing institution” that has to be propped up, according to the Treasury.

I cannot believe it, we are almost three quarters through 2009. It is now March and you know what that means? Spring and March Madness is upon us. Also, for many it is spring break. We all remember spring break. A time to relax and for some going to Destin or Cancun. Time really flies fast as you get older.
