LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton may have been crowned Miss USA 2009 on Sunday, but on Monday, it was Miss California Carrie Prejean’s answer to a question about same-sex marriage from celebrity blogger and pageant judge Perez Hilton that was the night’s biggest story.

During the show, Perez asked Carrie, “Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?”

“Well I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. Um, we live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and in, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman,” Carrie said to a mix of boos and applause. “No offense to anybody out there. But that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think that it should be between a man and a woman.”

As the nation considers increasing marginal tax rates and facilitating greater union membership, I thought it might make sense to look at the states with the highest and lowest unemployment rates to see if there might be any relevant patterns.

The six states with the highest unemployment rates are:

12.6% Michigan

12.1% Oregon

11.4% South Carolina

11.2% California

10.8% North Carolina

10.5% Rhode Island

The six states with the lowest unemployment rates are:

5.2% Iowa

5.2% Utah

4.9% South Dakota

4.6% Nebraska

4.5% Wyoming

4.2% North Dakota

Ten Years Ago

I cannot believe it. It was 10 years ago on this very day. Columbine High School was shot up by Eric Harris an Dylan Klebold. It resulted in 13 deaths. I was in high school when this horrible bloodbath happened. It sure felt like yesterday. God, time flies fast. Where were you when Columbine unfolded in 1999?

I thought to myself that the Columbine massacre was in retaliation against the trial of Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols for their involvement in the Oklahoma City Bombing and the Branch Davidian Fire, which happened two years before the bombing. Both are related because the Oklahoma City Bombing happened in retaliation against Waco. Also, Harris and Klebold planned the attack on the day of the Branch Davidian Fire and Oklahoma City Bombing. Had the bombs went off in the school on April 19th or April 20th, people would probably assume it would be somehow related to the Branch Davidian Fire and Oklahoma City Bombing. The Columbine Massacre was suppose to be a bombing that would of claimed hundreds of lives and it would of been viewed differently. Also, Ted Kaczynski, was caught as the Unabomber and ended up in prison. Ramzi Yousef and Sheikh Omar Abdul were sentenced to life in prison around the time McVeigh, Nichols, and Kaczynski were convicted and sentenced for their terroristic deeds. Yousef and Omar bombed the World Trade Center in 1993 in attempts of destroying it, but they failed. Sadly, the World Trade Center would be destroyed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack after two airplanes attacked the towers. All of them were sent off to ADX Florence Supermax Prison for life, about an hour from Columbine High School.

That could really have pissed off Harris and Klebold and somehow they could relate to them. In many ways, Harris and Klebold lived a life similar to a terrorist and died like one. Harris and Klebold said in their diary that it was a copycat of the Oklahoma City Bombing, in which there is a copycat effect. It could be simple as a copycat effect or something worse which would be retaliation towards the federal government, which was the reason the 1995 bombing happened.

I don’t watch American Idol or care for it. And no, this is Britains Got Talent, which had Simon Cowell. Susan Boyle is singing and all I can say is “WOW!” She is truly talented. Even though she is 47, it is not too late for her. Remember the late Rodney Dangerfield? He entered late into television and movies and very respectable.

The Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, announced today that it has filed a federal lawsuit against Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. The lawsuit claims that her Department’s “Rightwing Extremism Policy,” as reflected in the recently publicized Intelligence Assessment, “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment,” violates the civil liberties of combat veterans as well as American citizens by targeting them for disfavored treatment on account of the political beliefs.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on behalf of nationally syndicated conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage, Gregg Cunningham (President of the pro-life organization Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, Inc (CBR)), and Iraqi War Marine veteran Kevin Murray. The Law Center claims that Napolitano’s Department (DHS) has violated the First and Fifth Amendment Constitutional rights of these three plaintiffs by attempting to chill their free speech, expressive association, and equal protection rights. The lawsuit further claims that the Department of Homeland Security encourages law enforcement officers throughout the nation to target and report citizens to federal officials as suspicious rightwing extremists and potential terrorists because of their political beliefs.

Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center stated, “The Obama Administration has declared war on American patriots and our Constitution. The Report even admits that the Department has no specific information on any plans of violence by so-called ‘rightwing extremists.’ Rather, what they do have is the expression of political opinions by certain individuals and organizations that oppose the Obama administration’s policies, and this expression is protected speech under the First Amendment.”

Thompson added, “Janet Napolitano is lying to the American people when she says the Report is not based on ideology or political beliefs. In fact, her report would have the admiration of any current or past dictator in the way it targets political opponents.”

The Report specifically mentions the following political beliefs that law enforcement should use to determine whether someone is a “rightwing extremist”:

* Opposes restrictions on firearms

* Opposes lax immigration

* Opposes the policies of President Obama regarding immigration, citizenship and the expansion of social programs

* Opposes continuation of free trade agreements

* Opposes same-sex marriage

* Has paranoia of foreign regimes

* Fear of Communist regimes

* Opposes one world government

* Bemoans the decline of U.S. stature in the world.

* Upset with loss of U.S. manufacturing jobs to China and India

* . . . and the list goes on

The Law Center is asking the court to declare that the DHS policy violates the First and Fifth Amendments, to permanently enjoin the Policy and its application to the plaintiffs’ speech and other activities, and to award the plaintiffs their reasonable attorney’s fees and costs for having to bring the lawsuit.

Janet Napolitano was a disaster for the great state of Arizona. She is just as bad at the federal level. She would be so PC and not call Muslim terrorists, terrorists, is what they are. STOCKTON, Calif. – A woman kidnapped, raped and murdered an 8-year-old girl and stuffed her body in a suitcase that was dumped in a pond just a few miles from home, prosecutors alleged Tuesday. Melissa Huckaby, 28, was charged with murdering her daughter’s playmate, Sandra Cantu, in a gruesome crime that has shocked and terrified residents of Tracy, a Northern California city of about 78,000, 60 miles east of San Francisco.

Huckaby, who volunteered as a Sunday school teacher at her grandfather’s Clover Road Baptist Church in Tracy, appeared in a San Joaquin County courtroom for her arraignment in a red jumpsuit and shackles. She trembled and cried as a judge read the charge: one count of murder with the special circumstances of rape with a foreign object, lewd or lascivious conduct with a child under 14 and murder in the course of a kidnapping.

The special circumstances mean Huckaby, if convicted, could face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole. District Attorney James Willett said Tuesday he has not decided whether to seek the death penalty.

States are raising taxes despite the ’stimulus’; New York is No. 1.

Like the old competition to have the world’s tallest building, New York can’t resist having the nation’s highest taxes. So after California raised its top income tax rate to 10.55% last month, Albany’s politicians leapt into action to reclaim high-tax honors. Maybe C-Span can make this tax competition a new reality TV series; Carla Bruni, the first lady of France, could host.

They can invite politicians from the at least 10 other states that are also considering major tax hikes, including Oregon, Illinois, Wisconsin, Washington, Arizona and New Jersey. One explicit argument for the $787 billion “stimulus” bill was to help states avoid these tax increases that even Keynesians understand are contractionary. Instead, the state politicians are pocketing the federal cash to maintain spending, and raising taxes anyway. Just another spend-and-tax bait and switch.

In New York, Assembly Speaker (and de facto Governor) Sheldon Silver and other Democrats will impose a two percentage point “millionaire tax” on New Yorkers who earn more than $200,000 a year ($300,000 for couples). This will lift the top state tax rate to 8.97% and the New York City rate to 12.62%. Since capital gains and dividends are taxed as ordinary income, New York will impose the nation’s highest taxes on investment income — at a time when Wall Street is in jeopardy of losing its status as the world’s financial capital.
