KPRC-TV News Coverage Of Hurricane Jerry of 1989

Here is KPRC-TV coverage of Hurricane Jerry of 1989. I remember this hurricane, no rain, just some clouds. It was a small hurricane like Humberto in 2007. Jerry was unpredictable and made a last minute landfall on Galveston.

KTRK-TV Newsreel Of Hurricane Audrey

It’s at the 2:38 mark. It is short, but what a total mess Audrey left for Louisiana. Since KTRK-TV has many newsreels going back to 1957, it would be interesting to see all of them, especially weather and major events.

New NASA Images Indicate Object Hits Jupiter

New NASA Images Indicate Object Hits Jupiter
NASA
July 20, 2009

Scientists have found evidence that another object has bombarded Jupiter, exactly 15 years after the first impacts by the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9.

Following up on a tip by an amateur astronomer, Anthony Wesley of Australia, that a new dark “scar” had suddenly appeared on Jupiter, this morning between 3 and 9 a.m. PDT (6 a.m. and noon EDT) scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., using NASA’s Infrared Telescope Facility at the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii, gathered evidence indicating an impact.

New infrared images show the likely impact point was near the south polar region, with a visibly dark “scar” and bright upwelling particles in the upper atmosphere detected in near-infrared wavelengths, and a warming of the upper troposphere with possible extra emission from ammonia gas detected at mid-infrared wavelengths.

I first saw this at an astronomy forum. An amateur astronomer first reported it. I am an amateur astronomer myself..

Cloudy Nights

An asteroid or comet crashed into Jupiter, almost 15 years to this day when Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 crashed into Jupiter. Hmmm, coincidence or not. It must be a common event for asteroids and comets to crash into Jupiter, which serves as a vacuum cleaner and protects Earth from doomsday events. Something like this happens every 100 years, but in this case 15 years. Interesting.

The World’s Worst Person?

Here is a computer algorithm who are the world’s worst people. The four people compared are Adolf Hitler, Osama bin Laden, Bernard Madoff, and Lori Drew. Guess who turned out to be the world’s worst person? It is not a terrorist or mass murderer. It is Lori Drew, who got the lowest score. I have covered Lori Drew extensively and my opinion about her is low as Joseph Stalin, Osama bin Laden, Fred Phelps, and Eric Harris/Dylan Klebold. Osama bin Laden came in at a distant second, than Bernard Madoff, and Adolf Hitler last. Granted, Drew’s action is not comparable to killing 3,000 people on live television or committing genocide. Of course, her action is evil and Machiavellian. She felt what she did was justified, like what Bin Laden and Hitler thought was justified in the form of 9/11 and Holocaust.

Drew caused 13 year old Megan Meier to commit suicide by bullying her with her daughter, Sarah, and a co-worker, Ashley Grills. Most people can relate to her because everyone was bullied at some point and she faced a “Term of Service” charge that was dropped by the judge. Most people despise bullies and Lori Drew was a mother with issues of maturity. The outcome for her was nasty and vitriolic comments hurled at her, mixed with ugly insults and death threats. She was compared with the likes of Hitler, Bin Laden, and Charles Manson. The type of vitriol that has not been seen since right after 9/11 with Bin Laden and anyone who blamed America.

On the other hand, bin Laden’s sorry ass is being pursued by the US Military and the 9/11 hijackers got their asses incinerated. Hitler offed himself because the Allies were going to get his ass in Berlin. Madoff did not target a child and some of his victims may have been involved and even enabled it.

Other people that should be considered are Fred Phelps, Michael Crook, Casey Anthony, and John Walker Lindh. I can imagine they could be hated as much as Lori Drew, especially Fred Phelps and Casey Anthony. One flaw with the study is that Hitler is dead, while Bin Laden, Madoff, and Drew are alive. No one is going to argue that Hitler is hated and for good reasons. I could imagine if this was right after 9/11 attacks, Osama bin Laden would score MUCH lower than Lori Drew.

Bailouts could cost U.S. $23 trillion

Bailouts could cost U.S. $23 trillion
By EAMON JAVERS | 7/20/09 3:19 PM EDT
Politico

A series of bailouts, bank rescues and other economic lifelines could end up costing the federal government as much as $23 trillion, the U.S. government’s watchdog over the effort says – a staggering amount that is nearly double the nation’s entire economic output for a year.

If the feds end up spending that amount, it could be more than the federal government has spent on any single effort in American history.

For the government to be on the hook for the total amount, worst-case scenarios would have to come to pass in a variety of federal programs, which is unlikely, says Neil Barofsky, the special inspector general for the government’s financial bailout programs, in testimony prepared for delivery to the House oversight committee Tuesday.

Politico

This is really insane! This is WAY more than the New Deal and Moon landing program COMBINED!!!!!!! $23 trillion is conservative and I think it is even more than that! Why do we bother to bail out companies. Let them fail!

Recovery.Gov-2 Pounds Of Ham Contracts

2 pounds of Ham, at $595,600 a pound

Red State

Promoted from the diaries. We’d assume that this was some sort of data entry error, but then again, we have no reason to believe that at all. It is, after all, government ham.

UPDATE by Erick: The contract calls for nearly 800,000 lbs of ham sliced in 2 lb pieces. I’d bump this back off the front page, but am running into a technical problem doing that. Nonetheless, the contract appears legitimate.

I give up. I freaking give up. I tried to sit on the fence, reserve judgement. I tried to be a lefty among right wingers, a righty among left wingers. I told myself, hey, RedState is just as crazy as the Daily Kos, two sides of the same coin. I told myself that I’d give Obama a year before I made any judgment. But ham is now $1.1 million a pound, which changes everything. You guys win. This is wack.

Red State-2 pounds of Ham, at $595,600 a pound

This better be the best ham ever! In all seriousness, this is ridiculous. I mean $595,600 per a pound? I can get really good ham at a MUCH CHEAPER PRICE than this! This is your government at work. And wait, there is more.

Recovery.Gov-$1,191,200 FOR 2 POUND FROZEN HAM SLICED

Billboard Claiming Martin Luther King Was Republican Angers Black Activists in Houston

Billboard Claiming Martin Luther King Was Republican Angers Black Activists in Houston
By Joseph Abrams

Who knew?

A billboard proclaiming that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican has stirred a religious and political hornets’ nest in Houston, where a church leader is trying to draw black voters into the Republican Party.

The jumbo-sized roadside ad made its contentious claim for about a week — until a local black activist charged that the sign unjustly politicized King’s legacy and was hurting his community by telling a “blatant lie.”

“Martin Luther King may have very well believed in some of the Christian principles of the Republican Party, but Dr. Martin Luther King was not a Republican or a Democrat,” said Quanell X, who heads the New Black Panther Party in Houston.

Quanell X is at it again as usual. He is Houston’s Jesse Jackson. This was setup by a Black conservative group. How is that racist? Oh, I see, you are not a Democrat.

Is Facebook racist?

Is Facebook racist?

A Microsoft researcher has claimed that MySpace has become a “digital ghetto,” after white people abandoned it in favour of the more elite-seeming, culturally-superior Facebook.

Speaking at a conference in New York, Danah Boyd described the flight from MySpace to Facebook, claiming that the people who made the move are more likely to be educated, white and privileged:

The fact that digital migration is revealing the same social patterns as urban white flight should send warning signals to all of us… It should scare the hell out of us… When people are structurally divided, they do not share space with one another, they do not communicate with one another; this canon does breed intolerance.

Apparently, Facebookers mock MySpace users, saying only idiots would stick with the site, that it’s full of stupid people, Boyd said, after four years of research.

This is really assinine. I have both Facebook and MySpace and prefer Facebook because it is less cluttered. Plain and simple. It has nothing to do with race.

The Video That Could Kill ObamaCare

Let’s hope it does.

http://patriotroom.com/article/the-video-that-could-kill-obamacare

We don’t what happens in Canada and Great Britain. It will be abyssmal. Instead we should have a system similar to car insurance, which is required to have by law. Funny thing is there is no government car insurance program that I know of. If there is, let me know. The more healthier and responsible you are, the less you should pay.
