Hurricane Ike: One Year Later

I cannot believe it. It has been one year to the day that Ike ravaged our area. We were all battering down the hatches and preparing for Ike’s onslaught. The rain and wind came crashing in. It would get worse through the night. The wind lashing violently and creating storm surge that would flatten Bolivar Peninsula. The rain and wind continue into the morning. Power was out for many. Many suffered property damage. To make matters worse, some lost loved ones. Ike would be the most costliest hurricane besides Katrina and Andrew.

March 1 (Bloomberg) — American International Group Inc., the insurer deemed too important to fail, may get a commitment for as much as $30 billion in new government capital after a record quarterly loss, said two people familiar with the matter.

The insurer may also be allowed to make lower payments on government loans, said the people, who declined to be identified because there was no public announcement. New York-based AIG may forfeit part of stakes in its two largest non-U.S. life insurance divisions to lower the firm’s debt, the people said.

AIG, first saved from collapse in September with a package that grew to $150 billion, had to restructure its bailout after failing to sell enough units to repay the U.S. Firms including banks relied on AIG to back more than $300 billion of assets through derivative contracts as of Sept. 30, making the insurer a “systematically significant failing institution” that has to be propped up, according to the Treasury.

Hurricane Ike was number one because I went through it and it was a real mess. Many people are still homeless due to Ike. It was one monsterous storm and I do not want to ever go through it again.

1.) Lori Drew-Scumbag extraordinaire and sad excuse of a mother that drove 13 year old Megan Meier to suicide. Proof why some people should not procreate.

3.) OJ Simpson-Was acquitted of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in 1995. He was sentenced to prison for armed robbery in Las Vegas. Arrogance is one’s downfall.
4.) Fred Phelps-Nutcase leader of Westboro Baptist Church. Protest funerals of dead soldiers and victims of high profile crimes and disasters.  This is self-hate at its worst.
5.) Wendy Portillo-Dumb and idiotic teacher who got other kids to vote out 5 year old Alex Barton. Don’t use 9/11 or some other horrible tragedy to garner sympathy.
6.) Michael Crook-The Fred Phelps of the blogging world and professional loser.
7.) Clark Rockefeller-Rotten imposter and kidnapper.
8.) Diantha Harris-Rotten scumbag teacher that intimated 9 year old Cathy Thompson.
9.) Bernard Madoff-Rotten scumbag con artist who ran a massive Ponzi scheme.
10.) Markos Moulitsas-Wacko blogger who is despised by both left and right.

Osama bin Laden is not on the list only because he would be number one all the time. Also, he deserves his own category, the worst person ever besides Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler. Anyways, all of them will rot in Hell for eternity because they are freaks of nature.

It is officially now Christmas! Merry Christmas to everyone!

Cool Christmas Party

I can’t believe it. Christmas was just yesterday and it is upon us again. I went to a large party last night. Lots of beautiful and fine people there. I got to see many friends, some I have not seen since middle school. Christmas is not just about gifts. it is also about seeing friends, some you have not seen in years or even decades. That is a Christmas gift right there. All is well with them.

Sadly, you cannot say much about the world, 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, and Hurricane Ike. 9/11 and Hurricane Ike is very personal to me. 9/11 because the World Trade Center was attacked and destroyed and claimed 3,000 lives and many families are without loved ones as a result. Hurricane Ike was a horrible hurricane and I had to go through it. No fun and never want to go through that ever again.

Despite it all, I had a mighty great time. The Ghost of Christmas Past will sure agree with that. Hopefully future Christmas will be just as cool as well. Merry Christmas to everyone!

Christmas Is Upon Us

Winter is about to start soon and days are getting shorter until the winter solstice comes. Than days get longer over time. Christmas is upon us, 6 days from now. I cannot believe that time flies really fast. It is almost the end of the year. 2009 will be here in 13 days.

Can’t Believe It

I can’t believe that 2008 is almost over and Christmas is upon us again. Time sure flies fast when you get older and older. People tell me when Christmas passes, it will be back before you realize it and yes it is very true. Also, we are in a recession and it will get worse. Only time will tell. We are in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, but I do not think it will happen. I think it will be like the early 1980s, when we had double digit inflations.

Also, hurricane season is over. There were 16 storms, 8 hurricanes, and 5 major hurricanes. Ike was the most intense and destructive hurricane of the season. Ike was a monsterous hurricane when it hit Texas as a Category 2 hurricane. It might be one of the largest hurricanes I have ever seen. Hanna was the deadliest hurricane with over 500 people, due to floods and mudslides in Haiti, which also had to deal with Fay, Gustav, and Ike. Ike took a path similar to the Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900, except it did not become a hurricane until it entered the Gulf of Mexico and made landfall south of Galveston. It claimed up to 12,000 lives.

Mumbai, India’s financial capital, was a city under siege Thursday morning, as authorities struggled to regain order after teams of gunmen launched a wave of deadly nighttime attacks on several sites popular with Westerners.

The group behind the attacks reportedly singled out Americans and Britons as targets. It wasn’t immediately clear whether U.S. citizens were among the dead, who numbered at least 101, the Associated Press reported. At least 250 people were injured in the attacks, Reuters reported.

India’s NDTV reported Thursday morning that a “desperate hostage situation” still was under way at the Taj Mahal and Oberoi hotels, with a few terrorists holed up in each hotel despite Indian forces’ attempts overnight to take back control of the buildings. As the sun rose, sporadic gunfire could be heard.

This is a tragic situation in India. India is plagued by terrorism of all forms, from Muslim and Communist terrorists. I would not be surprised if the death toll rises. There are hostages and hopefully they will all be freed without any injuries. This is a very serious situation. My condolences to anyone who lost loved ones affected by this horrible tragedy in Mumbai. I would not be surprised if this either a home grown Islamic terrorism. We will keep an eye on this one.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – A jury has convicted a Missouri woman of three minor offenses for her role in an Internet hoax that apparently drove a 13-year-old girl to suicide.

The Los Angeles federal court jury on Wednesday rejected felony charges of accessing a computer without authorization to inflict emotional distress on young Megan Meier.

However, the jury found defendant Lori Drew guilty of three counts of the lesser offense of accessing a computer without authorization. Each count is punishable by up to one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
