‘Dead’ Baby Found Alive in Coffin

(Aug. 9) – A newborn boy declared dead by doctors in Paraguay was found to be alive hours later after he was taken home for his funeral.

Doctors at a state hospital in Asuncion, Paraguay, told Jose Alvarenga on Friday that his premature baby had been pronounced dead shortly after birth, the Telegraph reported.

The hospital delivered the baby’s body in a temporary coffin to Alvarenga’s home a few hours later.

A Very Costly Kiss: Senior Denied Diploma

For teens, there is no greater joy than graduating high school. Shaking off the shackles of education and claiming that hard-fought diploma is truly an epic day. Unfortunately, for several students at Bonny Eagle High School in Maine, their natural exuberance has led to some surprisingly serious problems.

On Friday night, when the senior class was waiting to graduate, excitement began to grow. Students bounced a large inflatable rubber duck. The noise level rose. And then came “the kiss.” When called, one student walked on stage to receive his diploma and blew a kiss to his family. The school administrator, clearly not the sentimental sort, sent the student back to his seat … sans diploma.

The seemingly harsh punishment has sent the Web all aflutter. Searches on “student denied diploma” and “bonny eagle high school” are both through the roof. Additionally, blogs and news papers are chiming in with opinions on whether or not the administration overreacted. The student’s mother has given interviews and is quite upset at her son’s treatment. According to an article from Fox News the outraged mother said, “A bow, a kiss to your mom is not misbehavior.”

More stupidity. We all remember our graduation day. We get all carried away. Not surprised this is from Maine, a Blue State.

The 2008 Olympics are upon us. I look forward to it. It makes summer television more interesting, which is normally a doldrum. It will start Friday and I will be watching it.

SANTA ANA, Calif. — A desperate five-day search for a 9-year-old boy abducted by his father in Southern California ended in Mexico, where the man died after being hit by a bus and the boy was found safe across town, authorities said Monday.

Ryan Ramos was found alone Sunday in a Mormon church building in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, and arrived in Orange County early Monday, where he was reunited with his family, sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said.

He had been missing since Wednesday, when his father, Lonnie Ramos, 46, allegedly shot his estranged wife during a custody exchange and took off with their child.

At least his family are alive and hopefully they will recover. Prayers to them.

Easter is upon us once again. This time, it is early in the year. Normally, Easter tends to fall in April. Easter marks Jesus’s resurrection from death after being crucified by the Romans and Jews in AD 29. Jesus was 33 years old at the time. Easter is marked after the Spring Equinox and the first Full Moon after it on the first Sunday. Easter marks the end of 40 days of Lent. It just so happens, that Easter falls on March 23. Western Easter falls between March 22 to April 25. Generally it falls in April. However for Eastern Orthodox, Easter falls between early April to May. Sometimes, Western and Eastern Easter falls on the same day, like in 2007. That Easter was rather cold and rainy, which is unusual. Most like to think Easter as warm because it is in Spring. Not in that case last year. Looks like this Easter will be warm. Anyways, Happy Early Easter to everyone!

I came from a night of starwatching with my telescope. It was cold and it was like being in a gondola of a World War I zeppelin. Here are the objects I saw. The seeing was good and the magnitude limit was 3 to 3.5. I used a 8 inch Newtonian.

Mars-The Red Planet. Reddish-orange in color.
Saturn-The Ringed Planet. Spectacular as usual. Never fails to amaze me. I saw Titan, which has an atmosphere, likely what early Earth had.’
M35-Spectacular and bright.
NGC 2158-Fainter and more stars. Right next to M35.
M44-Who left the bees out out of their hives? A sight to behold.
M45-The Seven Sisters.
M67-Faint and reminds me of someone putting a pinch of flour on black paper.
Eskimo Nebula-The cold weather inspired me to see this object. Looks like a small out of focus star.

Objects I try to see.
M65 and M66-Galaxies in Leo. Could not see them due to light pollution. I have seen them in a dark sky location.

NGC=New General Catalog

All in all, a great night of starwatching before to set the clocks forward.

A special day is upon us and it comes every four years and every four century with years 1600 or 2000. 1900 did not have Leap Day, which is February 29th. Tomorrow is Leap Day and it falls on a Friday. The calendar repeats itself every 28 years. The last time the calendar was laid out for this year was in 1980.
