Super Bowl XLIII

Super Bowl XLIII has passed and it was a good and close game. Quite an exciting one by both the Cardinals and Steelers. Interesting to note, both are hard hit by the current recession, one is in the Rust Belt, while the other is one of the epicenter of the mortgage meltdown. Both played a good game and put up a good fight. As usual, there had to be a winner and it was the Steelers, 27-23. Good game overall. Congratulations to both the Steelers and Cardinals for making to the Super Bowl. You both earned it.

2008 Olympics In Memory Lane

The 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing is now coming to a close. Now, it is in memory lane. Sixteen days of exciting moments in sports. Michael Phelps won eight gold medals, which is more than Mark Spitz won in 1972. Lot of records were made in the 2008 Olympics. Despite all the controversy, overall not a bad Olympic game. A very exciting Olympic event. Granted, there were a few scandals with Chinese gymnasts who were under the age of 16, which is against the rule. The closing ceremony is just as spectacular as the opening ceremony 16 days ago. The next Olympic event is the Winter Olympics in 2010 in Vancouver and there is the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Also, there is FIFA World Cup Soccer in the same year as the Winter Olympics in South Africa, which also exciting.

Since the Olympics are now over, many more exciting things are upon us. There are shows I am anticipating, return of Prison Break, Sarah Connor Chronicles, King of the Hill, and new shows like Fringe. Also, the DNC and RNC convention is upon us and we will find out who will be nominated as Presidential candidates. It should be an interesting one. Also, it is the start of college football season and Texas starts playing this weekend. Looking forward to that! Hopefully we will make it to BCS Championship and win it like in the 2005 season.

New York Giants Win

Looks like the underdog, New York Giants won Super Bowl XLII in a upset over the undefeated New England Patriots. I rooted for New York because like I said, it is my favorite ciy and New England was caught cheating, which turned out not to be one. Also, Coach Bellichick is not very nice and is arrogant during press conference. He walked off in anger when the Super Bowl was over.

New York deserved to win the championship in a professional sports league. They last won in 2000 World Series, which was New York Mets vs. New York Yankees. New York Yankees made it to the 2001 World Series, but lost. They should of won in light of the 9/11 terrorist attack.

End Of January

I can’t believe it, it is almost the end of the January, the first full month of 2008. February is upon us and comes February 29, Leap Day, which comes every four years. Some people have their birthday on February 29th, in which they celebrate on February 28th or March 1st. I don’t anyone who has a Leap Day birthday.

Looks like we could have a stormy morning complete with thunder and rain. Sounds like spring time in winter. Severe weather does not care what season it is or if it is El Nino or not. Yes, it is more likely to happen in spring and fall, but it can happen anytime. I remember severe thunderstorms in December, flooding in January, and tornados in February.

Mardi Gras is upon us, which is also known as Fat Tuesday, which is celebrated by Catholics and non-Catholics. It is the day before Ash Wednesday and a 40 day period called Lent, which people cannot eat meat on Fridays until Easter. Well, some abstain from smoking and drinking as well, which is a good thing too. It is rather early to celebrate Mardi Gras, which is the earliest since 1913. Easter comes on March 21st, which is early too because spring has barely started.

I am not a football fan myself, but Super Bowl LXII is coming. It is New England Patriots vs. New York Giants. I am rooting for New York of course because it is my favorite city, even though I am a Southerner. I have always liked New York since I was a young child. It will be a game worth watching for me. Super Bowl is one of the days where people consume a lot food besides Thanksgiving. I eat a lot during Super Sunday. Thinking about them nachos and buffalo wings. Mmmmmmmmmmmm. Super Sunday is like a holiday on its own, like Christmas and Labor Day.
